If there was ever a book worthy of the adage "do not judge a book by its cover", this is it. The cover does not do any justice to the incredible contents of the book. The recipes inside are true gems! The recipes remain exceptionally true to their simple origins but are very easy to prepare. The other star of the book is its photography. I assume that Emirati cuisine is quite hard to photograph as taste has traditionally been more important than presentation. However, the photographers have done a brilliant job of showcasing the dishes in their natural colors with very little embellishment.

The dishes are faithful to their simple origins

The cover is not a fair representation of the beautiful content inside

PROS: - This is a high-quality coffee table book, and is full of amazing food images and recipes that are easy to follow. - It has interesting anecdotes about the author’s 2-decade-long journey learning about the cuisine - You get a brief glimpse into the amazing history of Emirati cuisine. - The book includes equal number of modern dishes using local ingredients (e.g. camel burgers). - Great for gifting to someone who cooks in the UAE. CONS: - This is a large square book weighing almost 2 kgs and 29cm on each side. This could be difficult to use in very small kitchens.

High quality and very classy, elegant product. More than a cookbook - has great insights and stories. Great mix of history, tradition and modern nuances.

Its quite large so may not fit within small kitchens - but totally worth it if you can!
